A network is any apparatus which involves more than one computer capable of communicating with another. Two general types of networks are the LAN (local area network) and the WAN (wide area network). They basically differ in the range over which the network operates. LANs usually operate in-house, linking a number of computer systems by cabling. The LAN's architecture may include the ring, bus, or star configurations. WANs involve a much greater range and can even be world-wide. These network members are connected by using |modems| and telephone lines.
